Mentze Ottenstein
The MO1 and MO2 have noticeable sharp angles and a desirable richness.
Glowing pear, wavy elm, and smooth walnut – Mentze Ottenstein’s refined material sensibility mixes vivid grain textures and deep tints with crisp profiles.
The MO1 limited editions display engravings of hands and flowers on antique glass sheets. They speak to the improvised action of picking a flower next to an old curly tree where one imagines the wood used to produce the frames comes from.
The MO1 limited editions exist in two variants, one with the antique glass framed in front of a mirror and the other without the mirror background making the engraving only truly visible when hung on coloured walls.
There is a lightness to the MO1 with its delicate profile in two kinds of wood; a reddish pear with a soft glow, and a deep brown walnut providing a sharper contour.
The MO2 has a pointy shape. Even with the eyes, you sense how it must feel to glide your hand along the profile's hard edges.
The special edition MO2 fingerprint engravings on mirror is a humorous notion on the handling of everyday objects – the gesture of picking up a mirror and leaving behind a personal thumb mark.
The MO2 comes in a smooth dark walnut and in a warm and wavy elm wood.
