Anne Dorthe Vester

Anne Dorthe Vester has designed the AV1 and AV2 profiles with a simplicity that is striking.

The two profiles are without oblique cut edges and use rectangular pieces of wood, trimmed and turned to perfection.  One frame has two slim vertical pieces from top to bottom, connected by two wide horizontal pieces. The other is horizontally slim at the top and bottom, with wide vertical wooden profiles in-between. The maple wood is airy and elegant, the douglas fir is warm and inviting.

There’s a lightness in how Anne Dorthe Vester treats and mixes materials. The frames are first of all physically lightweight. The melted glass plates are transparent and flowy. The spy mirrors have a fluent cool tint. When paired with the Douglas fir, the materials appear with a soft glow.

The limited editions show Anne Dorthe Vester’s interest in the processing of materials and their inherent qualities. Three glass sheets with small bursts of colour are made from melted pieces of leftover glass.

Another range of limited editions are semi-transparent spy mirrors with geometric sandblasted areas. Some editions are mounted on the wall and others are suspended with wire from the ceiling.

The white maple wood is smooth and elegant, contrasting the dark spy mirror that looks like a black night sky with tiny starlike dots from the sandblasting.

Anne Dorthe Vester’s straight profiles hold the powerful quality of looking like the quintessential square carrier. A poised wooden case that is formally precise and utterly thought-out.
