About

Cassetta is based in Copenhagen and collaborates with architects, designers, and artists in the design of frames with corresponding limited editions.

The word cassetta translates quite simply to cassette; a box that is used to protect and carry. The Cassetta has been around since the Renaissance as an Italian term for a frame with a wide rectangular carving in the middle. We appreciate that the word on one hand speaks to the purely functional quality of framing and on the other a feeling that we are just about to begin an anecdote.

A frame sturdily sits on the periphery of an artwork reinforcing the idea of the cassette as a window. Our frames have yet a layer – the framed limited editions are designed to entwine shapes and stories, the materiality and motif are reinforcing each other.

It is important for us that our frames are equivalent to a piece of furniture with a distinct focus on tactility, materials, form, and detail. The frames are handmade from locally sourced materials, crafted in a wood workshop located just North of Copenhagen and framed by professional framers in central Copenhagen.

This spring we are proud to present our collaborations with BORCH Editions – a Tabernacle Frame by Mentze Ottenstein for a series of Alexander Tovborg etchings. Last year we launched four frames with corresponding limited editions by Mentze Ottenstein, Anne Dorthe Vester, and bahraini—danish. Upcoming series will launch with a vernissage in Copenhagen so remember to sign up for our newsletter in the footer or follow us on Instragram @cassetta.dk
